Comparing International Medical Schools

Comparing international medical schools to the United States is not an easy feat. In spite of what you might hear from some politicians or popular media pundits, there is nothing similar about the licensing requirements for international medical schools in the United States. However, there are certainly basic similarities between the licensing requirements for international medical schools and those required for US medical schools. There is one important area where the two sets of requirements are different. This area is career advancement.

Comparing international medical schools to the US education system requires you to pay close attention to the location in which they are located. In the United States, licensure is based on location alone. Students from foreign countries who want to pursue a degree at an international medical school will need to make the drive to come to the US to get their education. This means that students will have to come over one snowy, cold weekend to get their degree from one of the many international medical schools located throughout the US. They will then spend the next three to four years getting their RN or MSN degree from their chosen international school.

The licensing requirements for international medical schools are quite different. In many cases, students must first go to their home country to earn their RN or MSN degree. After they have earned their degree, they may apply to an educational institution that offers degrees from internationally accredited educational institutions. In many cases, the educational institution will accept credits for lab classes, coursework and clinical training from the students’ home country. The remainder of the credits may be transferable if the student has received a satisfactory score on his or her USN Exams.

The requirements for international medical schools also include completion of a four-year residency in a foreign hospital or health care facility. After completion of this residency, students will be required to take an international bar exam. In order to apply for residency in a foreign hospital, a resident must pass this exam before they can apply for admission. This type of residency program is the most difficult of all the residency options, but it gives students a real opportunity to gain world-class experience and prepare themselves for a career in emergency medicine or primary care.

Many international medical schools also offer a post-residency fellowship. After completing a residency in a foreign hospital or other educational institute, students are eligible to apply for this fellowship program. For this fellowship, students must be admitted to the program before completing their RN or MSN degree. Some international medical schools also have programs that allow incoming students to take part in a national research project during the final year of their degree, which can be a great way to get exposure to the best researchers in the field.

It should be noted, however, that many of these international medical schools have a slightly different approach to a residency than do other institutions. The first difference will probably be the level of international faculty participation. Whereas some international medical schools have a large number of domestic faculty members, many have none at all. In addition, some of these schools may have a smaller amount of teaching time devoted to residency. The amount of teaching time devoted to clinical skills, though, should still be competitive with many public or private universities.

When comparing these schools, it is important to note that there is a difference between accredited medical schools and universities. In order to be accredited, medical schools must meet specific criteria set forth by the Council on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. These schools may have been granted recognition from one or more accrediting agencies, but not all of them may.

Most other schools outside of the United States are not accredited. While there is no legal definition of what constitutes a “diploma” from an international school, there are certain ways to look at the curriculum and interview students about their international experience. Many times, international schools will accept transcripts and letters of recommendation that are provided by former students. If you are comparing international medical schools based on these criteria, it is a good idea to contact the student who will be completing your residency.
